Bowling Techniques Every Young Cricketer Must Master

Good bowling isn’t just about pace — it’s about control, consistency and understanding how to set up a batter. Here are the fundamentals every young bowler should focus on.
A consistent run-up is the foundation of good bowling. It should feel the same every single time, building smoothly into a strong, balanced delivery stride rather than a rushed or uneven approach.
Grip and seam position affect how the ball moves through the air and off the pitch. Learning the basic seam-up grip properly, before experimenting with variations, gives young bowlers a reliable stock delivery to fall back on.
Follow-through matters more than most beginners realise — a full, balanced follow-through protects against injury and helps maintain control over line and length.
Speaking of which, line and length is what actually gets batters out at every level. Bowling fast with poor accuracy is far less effective than bowling at a controlled pace with consistent, testing line and length.
Finally, young bowlers should train with a coach who monitors workload carefully — bowling too many overs too young is one of the leading causes of avoidable injuries in junior cricket.
Our bowling coaches at Ajeet Singh Cricket Academy in Agra work with players on exactly these fundamentals, using drills that build technique safely before introducing pace and variations.
