How to Improve Your Batting Technique: Expert Tips from ASCA Coaches

September 4, 2026 · by Ajeet Singh

Every batter, from a first-time player to a competitive club cricketer, can improve with a few technical corrections. Here’s what our coaches focus on most.

Start with your stance. Feet shoulder-width apart, weight evenly balanced, and eyes level — a stable base makes every other part of batting easier.

Check your grip next. The bat should sit comfortably across the base of your fingers, not deep in the palm, so your wrists stay free to generate power and control.

Work on your backlift and downswing as one smooth motion rather than two separate movements — this is one of the most common technical issues we correct in the nets.

Shot selection matters as much as technique. Learn to judge line and length early, and resist the temptation to play across the line to balls that should simply be defended or left.

Finally, don’t underestimate the mental side. Staying calm after a false shot, focusing one ball at a time, and building an innings patiently are skills that separate consistent batters from inconsistent ones.

At Ajeet Singh Cricket Academy, our batting coaches use one-on-one video feedback and structured net sessions to help players in Agra fix these exact issues — whether you’re just starting out or preparing for competitive-level cricket.
